Getting started
How quickly will I receive a reply?
Enquiries are answered as promptly as possible around the driving lesson schedule. Include a telephone number and your preferred contact method to make arranging a lesson easier.
What should I bring to my first driving lesson?
Bring your valid learner permit and any glasses or contact lenses you need for driving. Wear comfortable, secure footwear and confirm the collection point when booking.
How do I book my first lesson?
Use the enquiry form, telephone or WhatsApp. Include your location, previous driving experience and the days or times that generally suit you.
What information should I include in my enquiry?
Include your location, learner-permit status, previous experience, the lesson type you need and the days or times that generally suit you.
I am nervous about learning to drive. Is that a problem?
No. Lessons can begin at a calm pace, with clear explanations and time to repeat each skill. Mention any concerns when booking so the first lesson can be planned appropriately.
Where are lessons available?
Lessons are provided in Galway and the surrounding service area. Confirm your collection location when enquiring so availability can be checked.
Do you provide manual or automatic lessons?
Current vehicle and transmission availability should be confirmed when booking. The licence entitlement after passing differs depending on whether the test is taken in a manual or automatic vehicle.
Driving lessons
How long is a driving lesson?
The lesson duration and collection arrangements will be confirmed when booking. Allow a few minutes at the beginning and end for planning, feedback and agreeing what to practise next.
Can a complete beginner book a lesson?
Yes. A first lesson can begin with the cockpit routine, controls, observation and moving off in an appropriate setting before progressing at a pace that suits the learner.
How often should I take lessons?
Regular lessons and suitable supervised practice usually support steadier progress. The right frequency depends on your experience, access to practice and the skills being developed.
Essential Driver Training
What is Essential Driver Training?
Essential Driver Training is the RSA’s structured programme for learner car drivers. The standard programme consists of 12 one-hour sessions delivered by an Approved Driving Instructor.
How many EDT sessions are required?
The standard EDT programme has 12 one-hour sessions. Eligible foreign-licence holders may be approved for Reduced EDT, which has six one-hour sessions. Eligibility must be confirmed through the official process.
How can I check my EDT progress?
The RSA MyEDT portal shows completed sessions, upload dates and the sessions still outstanding. Raise any possible record error with your Approved Driving Instructor.
Can I change driving instructor during EDT?
Yes. Your completed sessions remain part of your record. A new Approved Driving Instructor can only sign off the sessions that they deliver, so bring the relevant details and discuss your progress at the outset.
Pre-test preparation
When should I book a pre-test lesson?
Book early enough to allow time for useful practice after the assessment. A pre-test lesson is most valuable when it identifies recurring issues and gives you time to correct them before test day.
How many pre-test lessons will I need?
There is no fixed number. It depends on your current consistency, the time available and the areas that still require instructor prompting or further practice.
Can I use the driving-school car for my test?
Ask when booking because availability and eligibility conditions must be confirmed. The RSA requires candidates to bring an eligible vehicle and to be insured to drive it; a vehicle may be hired from an Approved Driving Instructor.
What should I check before test day?
Confirm your learner permit, vehicle, insurance and appointment arrangements in advance. Use the current RSA checklist because documentation and vehicle requirements must be satisfied on the day.
Prices and payment
How much does a lesson cost?
Please contact Larry for the current lesson price and any available package options. Pricing should be confirmed together with lesson duration, collection arrangements and payment terms.
What is the cancellation policy?
The cancellation and rescheduling terms will be explained when your lesson is arranged. Give as much notice as possible if your availability changes.
Video library
Are the videos a substitute for driving lessons?
No. The videos reinforce useful concepts, but they cannot replace supervised practical tuition, individual feedback or safe on-road experience.
Who publishes the videos?
Each video page identifies its source. Official RSA resources and Larry’s own approved videos should be prioritised, while third-party videos are published only after their title, publisher and relevance have been verified.
